THE PROPERTY

After meandering through the gorgeous hillside of coffee plantations and cattle ranches, you will arrive at the gates of ‘Casa Doughty’ and thus begins your vacation in paradise! The home’s exterior space evokes peace and tranquility while providing stunning views of the San Jose and Central Valley both day and night.   Cool off in the swimming pool while surrounded by tropical landscaping, or sit beneath the covered Rancho for a barbeque dinner prepared on the stainless steel grill.

 

 

Stretching the length of the house are lovely covered terraces that look out to the gardens and lead through the courtyard. Sip your morning coffee among the butterflies, watch the sunrise or enjoy evening cocktails with a view of the Central Valley city lights off in the distance.

Through the living room, you’re greeted with high ceilings, modern amenities and all the comforts of home, including a 47-inch high-definition LCD TV featuring international cable with HBO, Cinemax, CNN, ESPN. Make memories in the gourmet fully equipped kitchen, where expansive counters and ample seating are perfect for family dinners with spectacular views of the gardens.

‘Casa Doughty’ has 5 spacious bedrooms, all complete with comfortable queen-sized beds and a satellite TV in the first master bedroom. Atenas has spring like conditions year-round, with highs in the 80’s and lows in the 60’s, but for added comfort both master suites have air conditioning and every room has ceiling fans.

THE LOCATION

The town of Atenas has a beautiful Central Park in the center of town where people come to sit and gather with friends. For excellent seafood and authentic Costa Rican dishes, visit Ranchero Pollo, LaCarreta or La Trocha! If you are craving Italian, don’t miss La Finca. For dinner with a fabulous view, take a taxi to Mirador El Pueblo and dine on Pescado al Ajillo! A favorite hang out for Sunday brunch is Kay’s Postres Restaurant, located on the edge of town.

Take a day trip to Paos Volcano National Park, where you can view an 8,885-foot active volcano overlooking Crater Lake and hike up to the crater! At La Paz Waterfall Gardens and Peace Lodge, you can enjoy a series of safe hiking trails through tropical forests where you can view 5 beautiful waterfalls. In addition to an orchid garden and a hummingbird garden, there is a huge butterfly observatory, birds, monkeys, snakes, frogs, and Jaguars. You can even feed a toucan!

For more natural wonder, head to Zoo Ave and view scarlet macaws, reclusive owls, brilliantly colored birds and a 12-foot crocodile! To learn about organic farming, don’t miss the El Toledo Organic Coffee Tour in Atenas, where the owner’s son, Gabriel, provides an unaffected, un-commercial, informative, and inspirational tour, giving a great perspective on what organic farming is all about.

Golfers listen up! Don’t miss out on Parque Valle del Sol in Santa Ana, about 30 minutes away. If a beach visit in on your list, head to Playa Herradura, Playa Jaco or Playa Dona Ana!
